Language	Spanish and Mayan (Yucatec Maya spoken by indigenous communities). English is extensively spoken in the Hotel Zone — better than most of Mexico — because the entire economy depends on American, Canadian, and European tourists. Downtown Cancún and markets are Spanish-speaking.

Safety	Cancún's Hotel Zone is one of the safest tourist zones in Mexico (the resort infrastructure creates a bubble). Downtown Cancún is also generally safe in the day; use Uber or hotel taxis at night and avoid the outer colonias (residential outskirts). The main risks are tourist-oriented scams (timeshare pitches, unlicensed tour operators). Cenotes: follow the safety instructions, do not dive without certification.
