Göreme's shopping is compressed into a few hundred metres of cave-fronted lanes off Müze Caddesi, then opens out to Avanos pottery workshops and Ürgüp's Tuesday market. Expect carpets, onyx, ceramics and dried-fruit stalls — and expect to haggle.

The everyday village strip behind the bus station where locals buy sun-dried apricots, pekmez grape molasses, Cappadocian pumpkin seeds and bulk saffron. Dried fruit runs 120-250 TL/kg, walnut sucuk 90 TL a stick. Cash preferred, no haggling on food.
Twelve kilometres north on the Kızılırmak, this workshop has thrown red river-clay since the 1950s and runs the odd Hair Museum in its cellar. Wheel demonstrations are free; hand-painted Hittite wine jugs 400-1.800 TL, large platters to 6.000 TL.
Cluster of family kiosks around the bus terminal selling hand-blown evil-eye beads, Anatolian glass lamps and copper-work. Single beads 25 TL, strung door hangers 150-400 TL, mosaic-glass Turkish lamps 900-3.500 TL depending on shade count.
Ürgüp, 8km east, is Cappadocia's onyx-cutting town: lathes turn banded green and honey onyx into chess sets, bowls and egg boxes while you watch. Small bowls 250 TL, chess sets 1.200-4.000 TL, silver-and-onyx rings from 900 TL.
Turkish lamb-nappa and suede jackets cut and stitched on site, with a small run of hand-tooled belts and satchels. Jackets 6.000-18.000 TL, belts 600-1.200 TL. Alterations are done overnight, so buy on arrival not on your last afternoon.
