Language	Spanish. Colombian Spanish (paisa or caleño accent) is clear and relatively easy to understand for Spanish learners. English is limited outside upscale hotels and tourist agencies. Caleños are extremely warm and patient with visitors attempting Spanish — the salsa culture has made the city very welcoming to foreigners.
Currency	Colombian Peso (COP). Current rate: approximately COP 4,000 = €1. Cash essential for street food, markets, taxis, and salsotecas. ATMs at major malls (Unicentro, Chipichape) and banks on Avenida 6N. Larger establishments accept Visa/Mastercard. USD accepted at some upscale restaurants.
Transport	MIO (Masivo Integrado de Occidente — Cali's BRT bus system, inspired by Curitiba's system, COP 2,950/ride, covers most of the city but is slow in traffic). Taxis are metered and cheap (COP 8,000–18,000 for most city trips). Uber operates in Cali (COP 8,000–20,000, often faster than taxis). Walking works in San Antonio and the historic centre.
Best time	December–March and July–August (dry season; Feria de Cali in December 25–30 is the world's largest salsa festival — hundreds of shows, street performances, and the professional competitions; book accommodation months ahead for this period). The wet season (April–June, September–November) brings afternoon rain but keeps the hills green.
Getting in	Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO): 20km from city centre. Taxi: COP 40,000–55,000, 30–45 min. Uber: COP 25,000–35,000. MIO bus connection: COP 2,950 but indirect. Direct flights from Bogotá (1 hr), Medellín (50 min), and international connections via Bogotá.
