Chile and Afghanistan are the only real sources of lapis lazuli, and Bellavista's first blocks are lined with workshops cutting it on site. Pendants from CLP 15.000, silver-set rings CLP 25.000–60.000. Check for even deep-blue colour and minimal resin filler.
Under the 1872 wrought-iron roof shipped from Glasgow, fishmongers sell dried merluza and seaweed, while the surrounding stalls stock merkén (smoked chilli), pink Cahuil salt and pisco. Merkén 100g around CLP 2.500; a bottle of pisco from CLP 6.000.
A whitewashed village of about 160 workshops beside the 18th-century Los Dominicos church, at the far end of Line 1. Ceramics, leather, wool and lapis, all made by the sellers. Open Tue–Sun roughly 10:30–19:00, with the best crafts quality in the city.
Art deco houses converted into passageways of independent studios: ceramics, leather goods, restored mid-century furniture and Chilean fashion labels. Most shops open 11:00–20:00 and close Mondays. Handmade ceramic mugs CLP 12.000–20.000.
Lunch inside one of the shopping patios, where cafés share courtyards with the boutiques. Menú del día around CLP 9.000–14.000 including juice. A useful pause before the afternoon, and the patios' tenants often run mid-week discounts.
A cobbled strip of concept stores, Chilean designer boutiques and the Sunday antiques fair on Plaza Mulato Gil de Castro. Look for alpaca scarves, Chilean-made leather bags and jewellery. Designer pieces CLP 40.000–150.000.
A small independent bookshop in the Lastarria block stocking Chilean literature, Neruda and Mistral editions, art titles and Spanish translations. Paperbacks CLP 12.000–25.000; illustrated Chilean photography books make lighter souvenirs than ceramics.
Chile's best-known wine retailer, strong on Carmenère, Maipo Cabernet and small Itata producers. Solid bottles from CLP 8.000, collectible labels above CLP 60.000. They box and wrap bottles for flights and can advise on customs limits.
South America's largest shopping centre, six levels under the 300m Gran Torre Santiago, with around 300 shops including Chilean chains Falabella and Paris. Open daily 10:00–21:00. Useful for rain, returns and international brands at Chilean prices.
A non-profit selling directly from rural artisans, with fair prices paid back to the makers: Chiloé wool, Quinchamalí black pottery, horsehair crin figures from Rari. Crin brooches around CLP 6.000, Chiloé blankets CLP 45.000+.
Final run for edible souvenirs in Yungay's old shopfronts: manjar (dulce de leche), Chilean honey, dried merken and chocolate with Andean salt. Most items CLP 3.000–10.000, light enough for hand luggage.
