Language	Swedish. English spoken to a very high standard across all ages and in all contexts — switching to English is never a problem. No Swedish required at all.
Currency	Swedish Krona (SEK). Cards accepted everywhere including small cafés and market stalls. Cash nearly obsolete but some older market vendors prefer it.
Transport	Gothenburg has one of Europe's largest surviving tram networks (12 lines). A 24-hr transit card (SEK 80) covers trams, buses and Älvsnabben ferry. The Styrsöbolaget archipelago ferry uses the Gothenburg transit card. Cycling is excellent along the canal.
Best time	June–August (long Scandinavian daylight, archipelago season, outdoor dining, Way Out West music festival in August). September for autumn colours and fewer crowds. December for Liseberg's Christmas market (the best in Scandinavia).
Getting in	Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT): Flygbussarna express bus to city centre 25 min (SEK 119). Taxi: SEK 350–450. By train: direct from Stockholm 3 hrs (SJ high-speed, from SEK 199 advance).
Tipping	Sweden is low-tip culture. Round up at restaurants if the service was good; 10% is generous. Cafés: no tipping expected. Taxi: round up to nearest SEK 10.
Safety	Gothenburg is one of Europe's safest cities. Normal urban precautions — watch your bag on Avenyn at night. Haga and Linnégatan are very safe at all hours.
