Bratislava rewards shoppers who walk past the Old Town souvenir racks. Within 20 minutes you can cover a working farmers' market, the 1910 Stará tržnica, Slovak-only design stores on Panská and 130 artist studios at Nová Cvernovka.
Bratislava's largest open-air market: roughly 300 stalls of Slovak strawberries, Small Carpathian wine, forest honey and barrelled sauerkraut, with a textile and flea row at the back. Tue–Sat 07:00–15:00, most stands cash only.
The 1910 hall on Námestie SNP hosts the Trh-Piac-Markt every Saturday 09:00–15:00: farm cheese, sourdough, Slovak craft beer and rotating design stalls under the riveted iron roof. Weekdays it switches to events and the standing bar.
The state folk-craft centre's flagship shop sells only juried Slovak handwork: blue-and-white Modra majolica, carved sheep-cheese moulds, fujara flutes, corn-husk dolls and čičmany-patterned linen. Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–14:00.
The kilometre-long shopping street running from Hurbanovo námestie to Trnavské mýto: Slovak chains, Vietnamese fabric shops, the Martinus bookstore at No. 26 and second-hand racks — everyday prices instead of Old Town tourist mark-ups.
A small Old Town store that stocks Slovak makers only: knitwear, hand-set jewellery, screen prints and folk-motif porcelain, with staff who can name the village each pattern comes from. Mon–Sat 10:00–19:00, Sun 11:00–17:00.
Slovak label Puojd cuts contemporary coats, dresses and heavy knits with restrained folk embroidery, all sewn in Slovakia and sold from a compact Laurinská showroom. Sizing runs small, so try before you commit; alterations take about a week.
The former chemistry school north of the centre now holds over 130 studios — ceramicists, glassblowers, bookbinders, furniture makers — selling straight from the workbench. Open-studio Saturdays are the reliable time; otherwise knock.
Riverside mall of about 200 shops on the Danube promenade, enlarged in 2023 with a second wing and tower. Useful for gathering Slovak brands under one roof — bean-to-bar chocolate, local labels and a supermarket wine aisle. Daily 09:00–21:00.
Founded in 1847 and reopened by the founder's descendants, Slovakia's oldest antiquarian bookshop sells Pressburg-era city maps, coronation engravings and Slovak first editions from a vaulted Old Town room. Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00.
Old Town wine shop built around small Small Carpathian growers plus the Slovak side of Tokaj: Devín, Dunaj and Pesecká leánka bottles that are hard to find west of the border. Pours by the glass at the counter while you choose.
Petržalka's mall across the SNP Bridge, reached on foot in ten minutes through Sad Janka Kráľa park. Around 230 shops, a Slovak-designer pop-up corner and noticeably lower prices than the historic centre. Daily 09:00–21:00.
Two rooms of restored Czechoslovak mid-century design near the main station: Jitona sideboards, 1950s–70s pressed glass, Tatra lamps and Bohemian ceramics, with plenty of small pieces sized for hand luggage. Tue–Fri 12:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–14:00.
