Language	Czech. English is widely spoken at hotels, Villa Tugendhat, museums, and restaurants in the centre. Outside tourist contexts, Czech is needed — especially in wine cellars, local pubs and markets. A few Czech words (prosím — please, děkuji — thank you, pivo — beer, víno — wine) are well-received.
Currency	Czech Koruna (CZK). Current rate: approximately CZK 25 = €1. Cards widely accepted in restaurants, museums, and shops. Wine cellars and local market stalls prefer cash. ATMs on Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) and near Zelný trh.
Transport	Brno has an excellent tram and trolleybus network (CZK 30/30-min, 25 lines, covers the entire city). Day pass: CZK 110. Walking covers the old town in 20 minutes. To Villa Tugendhat: tram 3 or 11 to Dětská nemocnice. To Mikulov: regional train from Brno hlavní nádraží, 1 hour.
Best time	May–June (warm, not crowded, motorcycle GP at Brno Circuit in August draws large crowds, book accommodation early). September–October (harvest season in Pálava, wine festivals, warm days and cool nights). December: Christmas market on Náměstí Svobody is atmospheric. Winter is cold (below 0°C) but the Capuchin Crypt and Villa Tugendhat are always open.
Getting in	Brno–Tuřany Airport (BRQ): small airport, limited direct flights. Vienna Airport (VIE, 120km): better connected, train from Vienna Hauptbahnhof to Brno: 1 hr 40 min by Railjet (CZK 300–600, advance). Bus from Vienna: 2 hrs, Student Agency/FlixBus, CZK 200. From Prague: train 2.5 hrs (RegioJet or Czech Railways, CZK 250–500).
Tipping	Round up at restaurants (10% standard, leave cash on the table). Cafés: leave the change. Wine bars: round up per glass. Pub: no tip expected but rounding up CZK 5–10 is normal. Villa Tugendhat: no tip for the guided tour (included in ticket).
Safety	Brno is one of the safest cities in Central Europe. The tourist areas, old town, and university districts are entirely safe at all hours. Normal precautions near Brno Central Station at night (as with any train station). No areas to specifically avoid for tourists.
