Language	German. Graz is not a tourist city and English is less universal than Vienna or Innsbruck — younger locals speak good English, but some older people in restaurants and markets will be in German only. Learning danke (thank you) and Entschuldigung (excuse me) goes a long way.
Currency	Euro (€). Cards widely accepted in restaurants and shops. The daily market at Hauptplatz prefers cash. ATMs everywhere in the old town.
Transport	Graz tram (GVB — 8 tram lines and 60 bus lines). 24-hr pass €6.10. The old town is entirely walkable from any accommodation inside the first district. The Schlossberg is a 10-minute walk from Hauptplatz.
Best time	April–June (spring markets, blooming Schlossberg gardens, warm but not crowded). September–October (harvest season, wine festivals, Styrian market produce at its peak). Summer is hot (30°C+) and relatively quiet compared to Vienna or Salzburg.
Getting in	Graz Airport (GRZ): taxi to city centre 15 min, €22–28. No direct train from airport. By train from Vienna: 2.5 hrs (ÖBB Railjet, from €19 advance). From Salzburg: 3.5 hrs.
Tipping	Austria: round up at restaurants (Auf's Aufzählen — "keep the change"). 10% for sit-down meals with service. Cafés: round up to nearest euro. No tipping at market stalls.
