Language	English (official language and language of government and business), Mandarin, Malay (national language) and Tamil (all four are official). Singlish (Singapore English creole — "lah", "leh", "lor", "can" as sentence particles, distinctive cadence and vocabulary) is the everyday spoken language between Singaporeans but standard English is spoken with visitors. No language barrier
Currency	Singapore Dollar (SGD). €1 ≈ 1.45 SGD. Cards accepted everywhere. PayNow (QR code payment system) used by most Singaporeans. Cash for hawker centres (though many now accept NETS/PayLah). SGD is extremely stable (one of the world's strongest currencies by purchasing power policy — the MAS uses exchange rate as its monetary policy tool)
Transport	MRT (Mass Rapid Transit — the most reliable metro in Asia: 5 lines, 130 stations, trains every 2–5 min, air-conditioned, $0.92–$2.55 single with EZ-Link card). EZ-Link card (SGD$12 including SGD$7 credit) for all MRT, LRT and bus. Grab app (Uber equivalent, dominant in SE Asia) for taxis. Walking in the CBD is pleasant but it is HOT (28–34°C, 80%+ humidity) — use the underground malls and covered walkways
Best time	February–April (coolest and least rainy: 25–30°C, Chingay parade (January/February), the most comfortable months for walking. November–January: northeast monsoon season (more rain but still warm, Christmas Orchard Road lights spectacular). June–August: hottest (32–35°C) and relatively dry. There is no "bad" time to visit Singapore — every month is humid and warm
Getting in	Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) — consistently voted the world's best airport (Skytrax, 8 consecutive years): MRT from the Jewel terminal to downtown 29 min (SGD$2.10). Taxi: 20–30 min (SGD$25–35). Changi's Jewel (the indoor waterfall, the largest indoor waterfall in the world, surrounded by gardens and 280 shops) is itself worth an hour before your flight
Tipping	No tipping culture in Singapore — it is not expected and not customary. Most restaurants add 10% service charge and 9% GST (19% total on top of menu prices). Hawker centres: never tip. Taxis: no tip expected. Hotel: SGD$2 per bag is fine if you want to. Actively refusing a tip is common
Safety	Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world. Extremely low crime, strict laws (fines for littering, chewing gum banned in public, jaywalking fined, drugs carry mandatory death penalty). The city is overwhelmingly safe at all hours. The main considerations are heat exhaustion (carry water) and occasional thunderstorms (tropical downpours)
Budget tips	Hawker centre meal: SGD$3–6. MRT single: SGD$1–2.55. Gardens by the Bay (outdoor): free. Merlion Park: free. Supertree show: free. Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in Asia for accommodation but hawker food is astonishingly cheap — budget SGD$80–150/day depending on accommodation
