Sapporo's shopping runs on three levels: covered Showa-era arcades along Tanukikoji, a heated underground network linking Odori to Sapporo Station, and market halls stacked with Hokkaido crab, dairy and woodcraft. Snow never stops a shopping day here.
About 60 seafood and produce shops in the Nijuyonken district, open 06:00–17:00 daily (most stalls close by 15:00). Hairy crab runs ¥4,000–12,000, uni trays ¥3,000+, melons ¥3,000–8,000 in season. Shops arrange cold shipping nationwide.
A compact 130-year-old market block between Minami 2 and Minami 3, running Higashi 1 to Higashi 2. Stalls open 07:00–18:00 selling scallops, ikura and dried kombu; the alley eateries serve kaisen-don bowls from ¥1,800 to ¥4,500.
The 1876 brewery complex converted into a mall with an atrium and brick-hall wing. Craft tenants sell Hokkaido birch and walnut woodwork, Otaru glass and leather; small carved trays and bowls run ¥2,000–9,000. Open 10:00–20:00.
A covered arcade of roughly 200 shops stretching seven blocks (about 900 m) from Nishi 1 to Nishi 7, trading since 1873. Mix of Ainu craft dealers, secondhand kimono, drugstores and cheap izakaya; most shops close 19:00–20:00.
Eight-floor department store attached to the JR station's south side, open 10:00–20:00. The B1 depachika stocks Hokkaido confectioners — Rokkatei, Kitakaro, Snaffle's — with gift boxes from ¥800; upper floors carry Japanese designer labels.
The Ekimae-dori underground walkway links Sapporo Station to Odori (520 m), continuing as Pole Town toward Susukino — roughly 1.9 km of heated corridor with about 80 shops, cafés and pop-up craft stalls. Open 06:00–24:00.
The affluent Maruyama district west of the centre holds independent apparel, ceramics and interior boutiques along Kita 1-jo and Miyanomori-dori. Small-label knitwear runs ¥12,000–35,000; most owners open 11:00–19:00, closed Wednesdays.
The Norbesa building at Minami 3 Nishi 5 tops out with the noria Ferris wheel and holds record stores, sneaker resellers and whisky bottle shops on its mid-floors, trading until 23:00 while the surrounding blocks fill with neon.
The Ishiya chocolate factory in western Sapporo sells its white-chocolate langue de chat boxes plus park-only variants and baking goods. A 12-piece box is ¥800, 24-piece ¥1,500; shop open 10:00–18:00, factory tour ¥800 extra.
The prefectural product shop on the JR Tower west concourse packs about 2,000 Hokkaido items into one room: soup curry kits, Yubari melon jelly, Furano lavender goods, cheese and Ainu-motif textiles. Open 08:30–20:00.
The station's Stellar Place complex hosts Hokkaido glassmakers and interior brands over its 6 floors, open 10:00–21:00. Hand-blown tumblers and oil lamps run ¥2,500–12,000, with lighter machine-pressed pieces from ¥1,200.
Hokkaido's largest bookstore spreads across a full building near the Botanic Garden with a strong art, craft and regional-publishing floor, plus stationery and washi paper goods. Open 10:00–21:00, closed some Wednesdays.
