Nanning is one of the cheapest provincial capitals in China: most parks are free, a bowl of laoyou fen costs ¥8, and the metro flat fare starts at ¥2. Three days here can run on under ¥120 a day including food.
Nanning's oldest park climbs Wangxian Slope, where the 1917 Zhenning Fort still mounts its German Krupp cannon above the rooftops. Gates open 06:00–22:00 and entry is free; only the boat rental and cable car charge.
The lane outside Guangxi University is priced for students: rice noodles ¥7, stir-fried rice ¥10, grilled squid skewers ¥5. Stalls run 11:00 until past midnight and almost everything is under ¥15 a plate.
Free national-level museum covering all twelve ethnic groups of Guangxi, with bronze drums, Zhuang brocade looms and a 40-hectare outdoor park of reconstructed drum towers and wind-and-rain bridges. Closed Mondays.
A free green strip along the Yong River where locals swim year-round, play Chinese chess and dance in groups after sunset. The path runs several kilometres past the Yongzhou Bridge with benches and public toilets throughout.
Nanning's largest wet market sells lychees, longans and mangosteens at half the supermarket price, plus cooked-food counters where a container of braised pork and rice costs ¥12. Busiest between 07:00 and 11:00.
Laoyou fen — sour bamboo shoot, black bean and pepper noodle soup — is Nanning's signature dish and costs ¥8 to ¥12 a bowl here. The Jianzheng Road branch is a plastic-stool canteen serving from 06:30 to 21:00.
Republican-era arcade shophouses line this free pedestrian street, and Jinshi Lane behind it is the oldest surviving alley in Nanning, with Ming-dynasty foundations and grandmothers selling ¥3 rice cakes from doorways.
The relocated Shui Street traders cluster around Huaqiang Road selling old Nanning snacks: sweet rice dumplings, pork-blood soup, fried taro cakes and lemon duck, mostly ¥5 to ¥15 a portion. Stalls fill up after 17:30.
A free 800-mu hillside park in the eastern suburbs with a cherry grove that blooms in February, bamboo trails and lake boardwalks. Open 06:00–22:00, reachable by city bus for ¥2 from Minzu Avenue.
A working-class eating strip near the Qingxiu district office where rice-noodle shops, clay-pot rice counters and roast-duck stalls serve full meals for ¥12 to ¥20. Busy from 11:30 with construction crews and office staff.
Free municipal museum in Wuxiang New District covering the city from Neolithic shell mounds to the Republican era, with a restored old-Nanning street set. Open 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:00, closed Mondays.
Free lakeside park in the ASEAN business district with arched bridges, reed banks and a clear line of sight to the Nanning skyline. The towers light up around 19:00 and the paths stay open through the evening.
