Day 1: Anglo-Boer War Museum (the British concentration camps where 26,000 Afrikaner women and children died (1900–1902): the first concentration camps in modern history, Emily Hobhouse monument), the Naval Hill Franklin Game Reserve (the urban white rhino, springbok, giraffe and eland — 800 hectares in the city center), the J.R.R. Tolkien birthplace (38 Maitland Street: born January 3 1892) and the Loch Logan Waterfront sunset
Day 2: Oliewenhuis Art Museum (the most important South African art collection in the Free State: Irma Stern, Pierneef, William Kentridge — free), the Nasionale Museum (the San (Bushman) rock art (the most ancient human lineage — 130,000-year divergence from all other humans), the Karoo Basin Triassic dinosaur fossils), the Basotho Cultural Village (the rondavel, the Basotho blanket, the Basotho pony) and the Free State steakhouse (Karoo lamb chops)
Day 3: Gariep Dam (the largest dam in South Africa: the 374 km² reservoir on the Orange River (Gariep — "the great river" in Khoikhoi): the lesser flamingo super-flock (up to 30,000 individuals), the white pelicans), the Golden Gate Highlands National Park (the golden sandstone cliffs at sunrise), the Clarens village ("Jewel of the Free State": the art galleries and the Clarens Brewery craft beer) and the farewell braai (boerewors, Karoo lamb chops, pap and bredie)
