Day 1: Old city medina (the 16th-century Atiq Mosque on Byzantine foundations, the Ottoman-era souq), the Italian colonial Lungomare (the most elegant seafront promenade in North Africa), the date market and Libyan tea ceremony (the 3-glass atay: sweet, sweeter, "bitter as death") and the Benghazi waterfront seafood dinner (sea bream, red mullet, mafrum couscous)
Day 2: The Greek ruins of Euesperides/Berenice (the colony founded 525 BCE by colonists from Cyrene: the excavations of the Hellenistic harbor district), the Italian colonial Al-Jumhuriya Boulevard, the Benghazi War Memorial (Omar Mukhtar: executed September 16 1931 in front of 20,000 Libyan prisoners — the founding myth of Libyan nationalism) and the Sabkhat al-Salmani flamingo lagoon at sunset
Day 3: Benghazi Museum of Antiquities (the Gorgon relief — the most important Archaic Greek sculpture in Libya, the Byzantine mosaics, the Roman portrait busts), the Libyan mafrum lunch (feijão tropeiro), the old port fish auction and the farewell Libyan bazeen dinner (barley paste in lamb broth)
